Frequently Asked

You have questions, and that makes complete sense. Most families come to Rooted College Planning feeling like they don't even know what to ask yet. Below you'll find answers to the questions I hear most often.

  • Why should we hire a consultant?

Most school counselors are doing their best with hundreds of kids on their caseload and not nearly enough time. A private consultant gives your family something the school simply can't — dedicated time, personalized guidance, and someone who knows your kid well enough to advocate for them at every step.

This process is complicated, it's changed a lot, and the stakes feel high. Having someone in your corner who knows exactly what needs to happen and when can make the difference between a stressful, reactive process and one that actually feels manageable. And when questions come up between meetings — because they always do — I'm available via email and text throughout our time together.

See this article (written by a family) that details the help and support a college consultant provides.

  • A lot of consultants know the college admissions process. What makes Rooted different is everything that surrounds it.

With a background in family dynamics and adolescent development — alongside a decade of experience inside college admissions and enrollment management — I bring a perspective most consultants simply don't have. I understand how colleges make decisions, and I understand how families work. Both matter in this process.

Every family I work with gets a personalized plan built around their kid: their strengths, their timeline, and their financial reality. I work with teenagers as early as freshman year or as late as the end of junior year, and support them through graduation. I keep my caseload intentionally small so your family always gets personal attention.

My goal is simple: to make sure you feel organized, supported, and confident, and that your kid walks away with a college they truly want to attend.

Take a look at this article, which details what you should look for when hiring an educational consultant.

  • Check out my Services page to learn more about options.

  • The great thing about technology is that it allows me to meet “face-to-face” with all of my clients! I use Zoom with 100% of my students and their families, and work with students all over the country.

  • Expect a clear plan, a realistic timeline, and someone who knows exactly what needs to happen next. From our very first meeting, you'll start to feel the difference between figuring this out on your own and having a guide who's done this before.

For your kid, expect a process that's built around them — their interests, their strengths, and where they want to end up. For you, expect to finally feel like you know what's going on and what's coming next.

This process takes time and commitment — from both of you. But families who come in ready to do the work walk away feeling good about where their kid lands. Not just relieved it's over, but genuinely proud of how they got there.

  • That's a fair question, and only your family can answer it. What I can tell you is that most families who come to Rooted are already spending time — a lot of it — Googling, second-guessing, and trying to piece together a process that nobody explained to them. This is what that time and energy looks like when it's organized, focused, and guided by someone who knows what they're doing.

  • It does, but more than time, it saves you the mental load. Instead of spending hours researching schools, decoding financial aid, and trying to figure out what actually needs to happen next, you have someone who already knows. You show up, do the work that's in front of you, and trust that nothing is falling through the cracks.

  • Let’s connect! The first step is booking a College Clarity Call — a free 30-minute Zoom where we'll talk through where your kid is right now, how the Rooted Method works, and whether we're a good fit for each other. Your child AND at least one parent are required to be present. You can grab a spot here.
